Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says that He loves Al-Muttaqeen 3 times in the Qur’an. And there are many ways to increase our taqwa of Allah, such as establishing the 5 daily prayers, being good to our parents, avoiding what is impermissible, and so on. But if we carefully look at all 3 ayaat that mention ‘Allah loves Al-Muttaqeen’, we will notice that they all focus on one specific good deed. Look at these 3 ayaat closely:
.
🔵 ❝Yes, whoever fulfills his contract and has taqwa of Allah, then Allah loves those who are Al-Muttaqeen.❞ [Ali Imran 3 : 76]
.
🔵 ❝As for the polytheists who have honoured every term of their treaty with you and have not supported an enemy against you, honour your treaty with them until the end of its term. Verily, Allah loves Al-Muttaqun.❞ [At-Tawbah 9 : 4]
.
🔵 ❝How can such polytheists have a treaty with Allah and His Messenger, except those you have made a treaty with at Al-Masjid Al-Haram? So, as long as they are true to you, be true to them. Verily, Allah loves Al-Muttaqun.❞ [At-Tawbah 9 : 7]
.
That specific good deed is: Fulfilling contracts and being faithful to our promises – even if they are made with those who disbelieve in Allah.
.
Allah is teaching us that the more faithful we are to our promises, covenants, contracts, and all other types of amanah, the higher our taqwa will be. And the lower the level of our faithfulness is, the lower our taqwa will be. It is also a sign of hypocrisy!
.
🔵 Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: ❝Among the signs of a hypocrite are three, even if he fasts and prays and claims to be a Muslim: (1) when he speaks he lies, (2) when he gives a promise he breaks it, and (3) when he is trusted he betrays.❞ [Sahih Al-Bukhari 33 & Sahih Muslim 59]
.
Meaning, a hypocrite deliberately breaks his promises out of his laziness or carelessness, and he is treacherous to the one he makes promises to.
.
Do you fulfill your promises? May Allah make us believers who fulfill our commitments and make us among Al-Muttaqeen, ameen.
