Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala will not hold us accountable for things that we cannot change. Consider this hadith:
.
🔵 Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Verily Allah does not look at your faces and your wealth, but He looks to your heart and to your deeds.” [Sahih Muslim 2564]
.
Allah doesn’t care about our physical features in regard as to whether we are tall or short, or fair or dark, and so on, because these are matters that we cannot change. However Allah looks at our hearts and our actions, because these are the things that we have some sort of control over, things that we can change. And one of the biggest disasters of our time is the focus and attention that is being paid on that which Allah doesn’t care of.
.
🔵 Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also said: “”Nothing is heavier on the believer’s scale on the Day of Judgment than good character. For indeed Allah, Most High, is angered by the shameless obscene person.” [Sahih At-Tirmidhi 2002]
.
Since a believer’s good character is the heaviest thing that can be placed on the scale on the Day of Judgment, then everyone of us should work hard and invest in it the most. And just like how we repent to Allah from our outer behavior (stealing, lying, watching prohibited things, etc) we should also repent to Allah from our inner behavior (envy, arrogance, insincerity. etc).
.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala beautify us with strong iman and noble characters, ameen.
