Brothers and sisters, we all experience bad dreams. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

🔵 ❝Dreams are of 3 types: the good dream which is a sort of good tidings from Allah; the evil dream which causes pain is from the shaytan; and the third is a suggestion of one’s own mind (i.e. a general dream, neither beneficial nor harmful).❞ [Sahih Muslim 2263a]

Even the companions, may Allah be pleased with them all, suffered evil dreams.

🔵 Abu Salama once said: ❝I used to see a dream (which was so bad) that would make me sick.❞ Abu Qatada also said the same thing. [Sahih Al-Bukhari 7044]

Examples of these evil dreams are the ones that make us see disasters, calamities, even false accusations and doubts against our loved ones, that make us feel physically or emotionally ill when we wake up, and ruin our productivity. They make us feel so worried, so we start telling others about that evil dream, and in the process make many others feel worried and disturbed as well.

Brothers and sisters, all of these are from shaytan, so do not fall into his tricks. Rather, we should do the following 4 things taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (as recorded in Sahih Al-Bukhari 7044):

✔️ 1. If we wake up from a bad dream, seek Allah’s refuge from the evil of the dream and the evil of the shaytan.

✔️ 2. Then blow a slightly wet blow 3 times to our left. This will help push the effects of shaytan away.

✔️ 3. Do not share our bad dreams with anyone. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also said that the bad dream will not harm us. Therefore, don’t be too concerned about it.

✔️ 4. And the next time before we sleep, read Ayatul-Kursi (Al-Baqarah 2:255) first, for there will come a guard from Allah who will protect us the entire night, and shaytan will not be able to come near us until dawn. [Sahih Al-Bukhari 5010]

May Allah protect us during the day and the night from the plots of shaytan, ameen
