My advice for all of us today is to continue to be steadfast in this Deen. Allah…

My advice for all of us today is to continue to be steadfast in this Deen. Allah says:

“Surely those who say: ‘Our Lord is Allah’ & then remain steadfast, the angels descend upon them (saying): ‘Do not fear, nor grieve. Rather, rejoice in the good news of Paradise which you have been promised. We are your supporters in this worldly life & the Hereafter. There you will have whatever your souls desire & there you will have whatever you ask for – as an accommodation from the All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” [Surah Fussilat 41 : 30-32]

This is the promise & reward for those who are steadfast. The angels will come & say to them: Don’t be afraid, don’t be concerned. But look forward to Jannah that you’ve been promised. We are your companions in this world & in the hereafter. You will get absolutely everything you want in Jannah! And all of these are an accommodation from Allah.

May Allah make us among those whom the angels descend with this great news, ameen! There are 2 opinions regarding when the angels will descend upon us: (1) at the time of our death & (2) at the time of our resurrection. And Allah knows best.

So what can we do in order to remain steadfast? There are many actions we can take, but I want to give 2 important advice:

1. That we make this du’a constantly throughout our lives:
“Ya Muqallibal-qulub, thabbit qalbi ‘alaa deenik.” (O Changer of the hearts, hold my heart steadfast upon Your religion). This is Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ most frequent du’a. [Sahih At-Tirmidhi]

2. That we pay attention to what kind of friends who we hang out with & this cannot be emphasized enough. Our friends say a lot about us. If we have friends whose conduct & actions are terrible, who frequently speak in terrible words, who don’t have haya’ with the opposite gender in our presence & we don’t do anything about it, then know that it will affect our iman. Our friends have an influence upon us. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advised us to pay attention to whom we befriend. He ﷺ said:

“A man is upon the religion of his friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.” [Abu Dawud & At-Tirmidhi]

May Allah keep us steadfast & grant us friends whom He is pleased with. Ameen.
