Assalamu alaikum, can you please advise? If I'm not fasting, is it halal for me to eat in public? I had one sister advising me not to eat on the bus to work and i explained i was pregnant. Even when not pregnant, i have heard a sister give Halaqah saying not to eat in public when on menses, even in a restaurant or cafe! – saying to eat in a private room, but before work there is no time for breakfast and on the way to work it is public and at work it is public and on the way home it is iftar time, so then i can eat. But during those hours where Allah said not to keep fast during menses, i have now basically kept fast because i have not eaten. Therefore this is making what is halal (eating during menses) to be haram. Can you please advise? I understand it may be inappropriate to eat in front of others when they are fasting, but they are adults who can manage when the rest of the world is eating around them and if any young child is fasting and is tempted to break their fast, then they are young and it isn't fardg upon them anyway and can therefore break their fast. If they are older then they have to keep their fast while being tempted and that is one of the aims of fasting- to learn self control. When someone is fasting and people around them are eating, then the Angels (AS) make dua for the fasting person. So can you please advise if it is ok for me to eat in public during menses?

SubhanAllah! What a great reminder. I was just thinking few days ago that unfortunately, in the culture I belong to, and in many other cultures as well, it is frown upon when a man marries a woman(legally by nikaah) who is older than him, despite the consent of both. As well as the man being older than the lady by stretch of few years and both of them are legally married by consent. And highest of example is our Prophet Muhammed(peace be upon him). This reflection episode of Surah Al Ma'idah is something gives a proper reply to those people who dislike this. BARAKALLAHU FEEK Brother Majed!
