Allah says:
🔵 “And We blessed Dawood with Suleiman – what an excellent servant ˹he was˺! Indeed, he ˹constantly˺ turned ˹to Allah˺.” [Surah Sad 38: 30]
Why does Allah describe Prophet Suleiman as an excellent servant? Because he always and constantly turned to Allah in repentance. Whenever he made even a small mistake, he would seek Allah’s forgiveness. Even when he did a good job, he would also seek Allah’s forgiveness because he knew he had shortcomings.

And then in another ayah, Allah says:
🔵 “Be patient ˹O Prophet˺ with what they say. And remember Our servant, Dawood, the man of strength. Indeed, he ˹constantly˺ turned ˹to Allah˺.” [Surah Sad 38: 17]
Allah also says that Prophet Dawood, the father of Prophet Suleiman (peace be upon them both), had the same trait of constantly turning to Allah in repentance as well.

There is a subtle lesson we can derive from these two ayaat, and that is Prophet Suleiman learnt this beautiful trait from his father, Prophet Dawood! Our children pick up what we say and what we do, and as parents, we need to realize that they pick up more of what we do, than what we say.
We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala to make us excellent role models for our children and all Muslims. May Allah make our children pick from us the best akhlaq. Ameen.
