Do not ever be shaken when someone criticizes Islam on how it treats women. By Allah, no one honors women the way Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala honors them. Don’t let anyone, any book, any eloquent speaker, any program on TV or a class taken in campus brainwash us by making us think that Islam is backwards, and outdated, and abuses women. Rather, Islam is applicable to every person at any place during anytime.
📚 In regard to daughters, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Whoever has daughters and takes good care of them, then they will act as a shield for him from the (Hell) Fire.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari]
📚 In regard to sisters, he ﷺ said that there are 3 types of people who will go to Jannah, and one of them is: “…a man who is merciful and soft-hearted towards his relatives and to every pious Muslim…” [Sahih Muslim]
📚 In regard to wives, he ﷺ said: “The best of you is the one who is best to his wife, and I am the best of you to my wives.” [Ibn Majah]
📚 In regards to mothers, there was a person who asked Prophet Muhammad ﷺ who among the people deserves his best treatment the most, and he ﷺ said: “Your mother” three times. When asked for the fourth time, he ﷺ said: “Then it is your father.” [Sahih Muslim]
📚 Another hadith in regard to mothers, a man asked Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: “O Messenger of Allah! I want to go out and fight (in Jihad) and I have come to ask your advice.” He (ﷺ) said: “Do you have a mother?” He said: “Yes.” He (ﷺ) said: “Then stay with her, for Paradise is beneath her feet.” [An-Nasai’]
Sometimes we focus too much on so many different actions in order to get Jannah, to please Allah. However, do not lose sight! If your mother is still around, the jannah you are looking for is under her feet. So where are we going? May Allah bless all mothers and send His mercy upon those who passed away!
Remember, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala will not hold us accountable on why people did not fulfill our rights, but Allah will hold every one of us accountable if we did not fulfill other people’s rights.
May Allah make us people who fulfill the rights of others, who do not oppress both women and men. Ameen!
