I once had an open lecture in Florida, where I asked the attendees if they could share a story about a trial they went through, a trial that they found the wisdom behind it many years later that we can benefit from. An old man stood up, and shared his story. He said:

“Everybody here knows I was a multi-millionaire. All my money was from haram sources. I became so rich, until Allah tested me where I lost all of my wealth. If it was not because of that, I would not be in today’s lecture.”

He was grateful to Allah for the test!
.
Most of the time, we will never know why certain things happened to us. But trust Allah that they were all khayr.
.
📚 Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 5641] .
📚 The Prophet ﷺ also said: “Trials will not cease afflicting the believing man and the believing woman in their self, children, and wealth, until they meet Allah without having any sin.” [At-Tirmidhi 2399] .
Nothing that a Muslim goes through, be it a physical or even an emotional pain, even something so small like a thorn that pricks, something minor like a paper cut, except that it wipes and cleans up the wrong things that he/she did, to a point that he/she will meet Allah with a perfect record, absolutely free of sins.
.
May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala forgive us, and make us His patient slaves. May Allah make us among those who will meet Him completely free of sins. Ameen.
