If the promises of Allah regarding the reward for leaving the haraam are not enough for us to abandon sins and bad habits, then remember that there are punishments on the other side of the coin. Let’s be real: There are consequences in this world and the hereafter for each sin that we did. For example, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
.
🔵 “Allah has cursed the one who consumes usury (i.e. riba’), its client, its witness, and its recorder.” [Musnad Ahmad 3799 | Graded Sahih by Ahmad Shakir] .
What does ‘curse’ mean in the context of this hadith? It means that they will receive no mercy from Allah, that they will be far away from it. This is a serious warning to all of us!
.
So think of the punishments that may befall when we sin. One of the sheikhs said if there is one thing that we can remember as a consequence of looking at the haraam, is that it may be that a person will be veiled from seeing Allah in Jannah as a punishment for that sin.
.
When we’re about to do something that is prohibited by Allah, think of the consequences that await us in the hereafter. Is it worth it?
