“Indeed, Allah loves those who are fair & uphold justice (Al-Muqsiteen)”.
Allah says this statement 3 times in the Qur’an.
Justice is really important in Islam. Allah subhana wa ta’ala says in the Qur’an:
“These were people who followed falsehood & consumed the haram. So, if they come to you (O Muhammad), either judge between them, or turn away from them. If you turn away from them, they cannot harm you whatsoever. But if you judge between them, then do so with justice. Surely Allah loves Al-Muqsiteen.” [Al-Ma’idah 5 : 42]
The people mentioned in this ayah were people who hated Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. They were enemies to Allah, and him ﷺ.
Allah says that if these people come to you, o Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, with a problem or a dispute, because they want you to be a judge & solve the matter, then you have two options: (1) either judge for them, or (2) turn down their request.
Allah subhana wa ta’ala continues by saying that if you, o Prophet, turn away from them, they cannot harm you whatsoever; but if you choose to judge between them, then do so with justice. For sure, Allah loves Al-Muqsiteen.
Do you see that? Even if these people are enemies to us, hate us, have their own agenda against us, still be sure to not allow any of these be a reason not to judge in fairness & justice – even though they don’t like us! Don’t allow the hatred we may have towards someone, or their hatred toward us, cause us to be unfair.
Subhana Allah! This is really tough, isn’t it? This is why the reward of being Al-Muqsiteen is amazing! Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“The Al-Muqsiteen will be seated on the pulpits of light beside Allah. They are those who are fair:
(1) in the way they judge,
(2) with their families
(3) & with everything which they have a responsibility over.” [Sahih Muslim 1827]
These people are given VIP seats with Allah. Why? Because they worked so hard! It can be really difficult on ourselves to be fair sometimes. It’s a struggle & can be really painful. But know that Allah will love us when we are just & fair, even with those who may possibly hate Allah.
May Allah make us Al-Muqsiteen, ameen.
