Shaytan often tricks us into being too concerned about our future by threatening us with poverty, so that we don’t spend in khayr or give in charity. But Allah promises that He’ll give us back & more than what we gave away in charity. Consider this amazing hadith:
There was a man in the wilderness, who heard a sound coming from a cloud that said: ❝Rain upon the garden of so-and-so!❞
The cloud thus started to move, until it reached an area where it rained upon. That area had many channels that the water can go through, but all the rain only dropped on one specific channel!
The man became more amazed, so he followed that one specific channel, until he found a person with a shovel, clearing the way for the water to come to his garden. The man then asked the owner of the garden: ❝Servant of Allah, what is your name?❞ He replied: ❝I am so-and-so.❞ It was the very same name which was mentioned from the clouds before!
The owner of the garden asked the reason why he wanted to know his name. So the man replied: ❝I heard a sound from the cloud which this water belongs to. That sound said: “Rain upon the garden of so-and-so” – like your name. What do you do (to receive this favour) shown to you by Allah in this matter?❞ The man was so amazed & wanted to know what did this other person do so that a customized cloud with rain is brought just for him, in the middle of the desert!
The owner of the garden replied: ❝I donate one-third of what the land that I own produces, and I spend one-third on myself, family, & children; and keep the last third for further investment.❞ [Sahih Muslim 2984a]
Brothers and sisters, when we donate, we too will have a cloud that is equal to the size of our tawakkul on Allah. This cloud can be in many forms – perhaps an amazing sale deal of something that we’ve been planning to buy, or a protection from some form of harm. Regardless, the blessings will rain upon those who give in charity, because Allah is Ar-Razzaq who never breaks His promise.
May this hadith inspires us to give in charity for the sake of Allah!
