Today I want to share this amazing hadith Qudsi about earning the love of Allah. Prophet Muhammad said that Allah subhana wa ta’ala said:
“…And the most beloved things with which My slave comes nearer to Me is what I have enjoined upon him (i.e. obligatory worship),
and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing extra voluntary worship until I love him,
so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears,
and his sense of sight with which he sees,
and his hand with which he grips,
and his leg with which he walks;
and if he asks Me, I will give him,
and if he asks My protection, I will protect him…” [Sahih Al-Bukhari 6502]
_______
“his hearing which he hears with” means that Allah will protect our hearing from listening to what is haram, from things that will ruin our iman. He will guide our sense of hearing to listen to that which is halal and pleasing to Allah. But if we do hear the haram, then Allah will not allow our iman to be negatively affected by it. This is the same for the following statements:
“his sight which he sees with”
“his hand with which he grips”
“his leg with which he walks”
Allah subhana wa ta’ala will protect our eyes from looking at what is haram, protect our hands from holding the haram, protect our legs from walking to the haram. Instead He will guide our eyes, hands, and legs to see, to hold, and to go to places that are pleasing to Him.
So as we increase our Qur’an recitation and good deeds in Ramadan, do not be careless with the quality of our obligatory worship, because they are the first most beloved deeds to Allah. If we take care of both our obligatory and voluntary deeds, then Allah said:
“And if he asks Me for something, I will respond and give him. And if he seeks protection in Me, I will protect him.”
May Allah make you and I of those whom He loves, ameen.
