What do you think is THE most crucial du’a we can ever make? What’s the most frequent du’a made by any believer?
The answer is: Ihdinas-siratal-mustaqeem, which means (O Allah) guide us to the straight path. Allah commands us to make this du’a minimum 17 times a day. Why?
Because as an imperfect human being, we can never guarantee that tomorrow, or the next week, or the next year that we will still be among the people who say ‘la ilaaha illa Allah’. Perhaps we know some people who were religiously better than us, who had strong iman, yet today they are so far away from the Deen.
This is why we must supplicate this du’a with attentiveness and humility to Allah.
Similarly, do you know what was Prophet Muhammad ﷺ most frequent du’a?
It was: Ya Muqallibal-qulub, thabbit qalbi ‘alaa deenik. Meaning: O Changer of the hearts, hold my heart steadfast upon Your religion.” [Sahih At-Tirmidhi]
If Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself made this du’a frequently, then what about you and me? We should always be humble to Allah and never feel so full about ourselves. We are nothing without Allah’s Mercy and Guidance.
I want to share with you this amazing hadith. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “When Allah wants good for a slave, He uses him.” So the people asked: “How does He use him, O Messenger Of Allah?” He ﷺ said: “By facilitating a good deed for him to do, and then he dies upon that good deed.” [Sahih At-Tirmidhi]
This hadith is very likely about those who were steadfast, always trying, always begging to Allah, and whenever they made a mistake, they rectified themselves and were steadfast once more.
There was a known story about a sister who passed away, and the one who washed her body called one of the scholars because something strange happened. She told the sheikh that the sister’s right hand was on top of her left hand and as if they were glued together. So the sheikh asked what her state was when she passed away. The person said that she died while she was praying.
Allahu akbar! May Allah make our last words to be laa ilaaha illa Allah. May Allah make the moment in which we die to be an action that is pleasing to Him subhana wa ta’ala. Ameen.
