What is more haram than the haram things we do at times? It’s to lose hope in Allah & to believe that He’ll never forgive us. This is a grave sin. When we’ve made a mistake, we must make tawbah. Tawbah means to return, to move away from the things that Allah hates & return to the things that Allah loves.

One of Allah’s Beautiful Names is At-Tawwab, the One who accepts our tawbah. And He loves those who repent to Him: ❝Truly, Allah loves those who turn unto Him in repentance…❞ [Al-Baqarah 2:222]

I want to share this beautiful hadith to showcase Allah’s Love & Mercy towards those who’ve sinned but have repented to Allah. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

❝Verily, Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than a person who has lost his camel in a waterless desert, carrying his provision of food & drink, and it is lost.
He, having lost all hopes, lies down in shade & is disappointed about his camel; when all of a sudden, he finds that camel standing before him.
He takes hold of its reins & then out of boundless joy blurts out: “O Allah, You are my slave & I am Your Lord!” He commits this mistake out of extreme joy.❞ [Sahih Muslim 2747]

Imagine a person travelling with his camel on a barren desert with all the vital provisions for the journey packed on the camel. At one point, he decided to stop & rest, when all of a sudden, he noticed that his camel went missing. How would he feel right now! He’d feel that it was only a matter of time for him to perish, because all of his food & water were all gone, while stranded in the middle of nowhere! So he lost all hopes, lied down, waiting to die. He fell asleep for a while, opened his eyes & lo and behold, his camel now stood in front of him!

Can you imagine how happy & excited this man was? He quickly grabbed the reins of his camel & blurted: ❝O Allah, You are my slave & I am Your Lord!❞ Why did he say that? Because he was so overjoyed, so happy, that he didn’t realize the mistakes of his words.

But the Prophet ﷺ said that Allah is HAPPIER with the repentance of His slave than this man! Allah loves it when we sincerely return to Him. This is why we should never, ever lose hope in Allah.
